Anirnik Oshuitoq (1902 - 1983) $1,600.00 CDN HUNTER BECKONING TO ANIMALS was editioned in 1963 in the West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative printing studio. It was not released in the annual print collection that year and has remained in the archives of the Cooperative collection since that time. On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition Art by Women, Feheley Fine Arts is pleased to announce the release of this extraordinarily beautiful print. It is a rare example of this artist's work in stencil. The soft forms of the composition, the varied tones and depth of colour found in HUNTER BECKONING TO ANIMALS typify the exquisite stencils produced in Cape Dorset in the early 1960s. Anirnik Oshuitoq was one of the very powerful image-makers who worked
with the printmakers in the early years of the studio in Cape Dorset.
She began drawing in the early 1960s and her prints were frequently
represented in the annual print collections until the mid-1970s. |
