Oviloo has explained that this work reflects the mix of traditional Inuit and modern Catholic spirituality in her experience. It is related to Oviloo’s “grieving woman” series which developed over the past decade in response to the untimely death of her father. However, this particular sculpture is layered with further meaning: the artist has defined it as a personal response to the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City.
