David Alexander is an enthusiastic high Arctic traveller. Since 1989, as part of the ARTIST IN THE ARCTIC SERIES, Feheley Fine Arts has hosted three separate exhibitions of Arctic landscapes which document his travels on Ellesmere Island, Greenland and south Baffin Island. IMPROBABLE POSSIBILITIES features a new series of large-scale landscape paintings by David Alexander. In each of these, the artist has superimposed/integrated images of delicate flora against powerful landforms. The flowers appear in a landscape where they clearly do not belong. This works as a metaphor for the incongruity of human attempts to tame rugged northern lands. At the same time, the colours and delicacy of the flowers in the foreground create a stunning effect against the backdrop of the dramatic landscape forms that have always filled the artist's paintings.
