IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND Tool, Toys and Miniatures from the Eastern Arctic
Opening April 12, 2008 This exhibition brings together a delightful ensemble of sculptures from the late-1950s and 1960s. Diverse materials such as stone, ivory, antler and muskox horn compose this vast collection of objects. Some represent utilitarian items, such as snow goggles and combs, while others test wit and dexterity through play. Another group reveals the natural world of the Arctic; artists’ precious and precise depictions of animals and people recall the prevalent small-scale, hand-held sculptures of times past. |
