WILLIAM NOAH (1943 - )

For over thirty years, William Noah has participated in printmaking, painting, sculpting, and graphic design. This dedication distinguishes him as an established artist. His artwork documents the activities of the North as well as events in his own life. Noah captures the vastness of the Arctic in a rough and authentic manner that features the undulating layers of the Arctic landscape as it expands and forms around the communities that live within.

Baker Lake residents also know him for his vast contributions to the community. As part of his comprehensive experience, Noah has worked on boards and councils, served as mayor of Baker Lake, and directed the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation. He continues to participate in various projects to this day.

Noah is the son of Jessie Oonark and sibling to Miriam Marealik Qiyuk, Victoria Kayuryuk Mamnguqsualuk, Josiah Nuilaalik, Janet Uqayuittuq Kigusiuq, Peggy Aittauq Qablunaaq, Mary Singaqti Yuusipik, and Nancy Aupaluktuq Pukingrnak.
