MEELIA KELLY (1940 - 2006)

Meelia Kelly was the younger sister of the late Sheojuk Etidlooie. Meelia lived in traditional camps on the land until age sixteen. She resided in Iqaluit before returning to Cape Dorset in the early 1990s, where she lived with her family. In recent years Meelia turned her hand to drawing, and her works have been selected for inclusion in the annual Cape Dorset print release since 2001.

Meelia's works are delicately colourful, filled with lyrical images of birds and animals, as well as detailed memories of traditional camp life with her family. Meelia's work was included in the annual print collection early in her artistic career, despite arrival on the art scene later in life.
